How ABA works in Maryland
- Under 3? Request a free evaluation through your local Infants and Toddlers Program (statewide line 1-800-535-0182). No diagnosis needed.
- Private insurance: Plans issued or delivered in Maryland must cover medically necessary ABA for children with autism until at least the end of the month in which your child turns 19. Self-funded employer plans vary.
- Medicaid: Maryland Medicaid covers medically necessary ABA for members under 21, with prior authorization.

Does insurance cover ABA therapy in Maryland? +
Often, yes. Maryland's habilitative services law requires health plans issued or delivered in Maryland to cover medically necessary ABA for children with autism until at least the end of the month in which your child turns 19, and Maryland Medicaid covers ABA for members under 21. Employer self-funded plans set their own rules, so send us your plan details and we'll verify your coverage before anything starts.
Do I need a diagnosis to get help for a child under 3? +
No. Maryland's Infants and Toddlers Program offers free evaluations for children from birth to 36 months, and no diagnosis is needed to request one. Insurance- or Medicaid-funded ABA does usually require an autism diagnosis — we can help you understand both paths.
Are your Maryland clinicians licensed? +
Maryland requires behavior analysts to be licensed by the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists. Our Maryland treatment plans are designed and supervised by Maryland-licensed behavior analysts (LBAs), with sessions delivered by trained behavior technicians under their supervision.
